Team Light Skin, Team Dark Skin or Team Glow Skin

July 6, 2017 By Abby Jo

The complexion of the black race, with special reference to the women folk has thrown a lot of people into a frenzy of belonging or trying to belong to either “team light skin” or “team dark skin.” Some harbour the thought the male specie might be partial to team light skin and therefore they (team light skin) have all their (the male specie’s) time and attention. This prejudice is so powerful that it creates a controversial segment in the skin care industry. A secret formula was developed to bring willing subjects out of “darkness” into the “light”. I dare say, if the industry ever attempts to turn light into darkness, it would go bankrupt overnight but that is an argument for another day.

There are those who are bold enough to argue that dark is better and the closer you are to your natural state, the more likely you are to rake in admiration and attention. This prejudice has town criers, hashtags and the whole media world screaming into our poor ears, “team melanin, black and proud, chocolate toh bad”…and the list goes on. More often than not, it sounds like a counter attack against the negative perception the western culture has sold Africans about our dark skin, anyway good luck with that, just know the devil is always going to be black.

Amidst the raging war, has anyone stopped to ask why we don’t get to chose the color shade we come in, yet we want to dictate who has what when we pick a spouse, a partner or for some even a close friend? Just as sure as the sun is going to shine everyday, the fact is we are all going to have prejudices or preferences for skin color, whether it is to ensure a better future for our offspring or to massage our ego. But really should the focus be on the color shade or on the health and nourishment of the African skin? Is it possible for every African individual to unite under a different banner asides color shade?

There is a school of thought that says “team melanin” used to do little or nothing to accentuate the texture and look of their skin. Team light skin on the other hand has always been positioned to attract attention, with little or no work needed. This could be the single reason why a good number of Nigerian artistes prefer to use light skin models in their music videos even though they themselves are blacker than burnt dodo. On a more serious note, there are some of us that want to believe team melanin’s grievances against team light skin pushed them to look for a better position and perception. The movement made room for a novel skin category,“team Glow Skin”. This new sect does not base their scorecard on skin complexion but on skin health, nourishment and texture. They believe that irrespective of skin color and prejudices, a well nourished and healthy skin with lovely texture will draw the admiration of almost anyone.

By now you’re probably wondering, if it is possible to move over to from team light skin or team dark skin to team glow skin? Is possible to have beautiful skin that glows irrespective of it’s complexion? The answer is an absolute yes.

What You Need To Do About Dark Inner Thighs and Under Arms

May 13, 2017 By Abby Jo

Every lady wants to have a fantastic sexual appeal. This desire is not restricted to having only an attractive face. It extends to her entire body. Every lady secretly wants that sexy body. Apparently, this is because a glowing and flawless skin brings additional happiness and an extra sense of a satisfaction. Advantage with the guys? You bet so too!  No lady wants to always conceal a repelling skin because soon enough, the mirror or other persons would point out the defect; reminding them of the bitter truth.

Dark inner thighs and under arms can make anyone feel unattractive, especially when it is in total contrast with your actual skin complexion. For many, the resultant effect becomes a diminished confidence and sense of self-worth, and increased insecurities.

Imagine getting a pretty swimming suit and going to the swimming pool with friends, only to be reminded by the sight of your darker inner thighs and underarms that you’re better off not flaunting your body because of an unexplainable blemish. It becomes even extremely frustrating for some who are later left with no choice than to wear specific types of clothes in order to avoid sly and unkind remarks from people.

In truth, dark inner thighs are not the only parts of your body that can make you feel insecure. Dark or black knees, knuckles and elbows are also areas where a lot of people are quick to pass judgment as to the cause of the discolouration. The most popular one everyone is quick to associate this defect with is “bleaching”. Such discolorations are also often erroneously attributed to poor hygiene or even previous infections from sexually transmitted diseases, whereas that may not necessarily be the case. Tough world, isn’t it?

Just before we take a look at how to get rid of these discolorations, (also known as hyper a pigmentation), what are the common causes of this skin defect? They include the following:

Obesity: Obese persons easily have dark inner thighs due to their thighs rubbing against each other as they walk or exercise. Rubbing thighs can cause discolouration and itchy skin; a condition called ‘chaffing’.

Friction: Excess friction and sweating between the thighs can result in dark thighs. Also, wearing of very tight clothing may worsen the problem.

Medication and drugs: some medications such as oral contraceptives have been found to cause inner thigh darkening.

Other causes include absence of thigh gaps, hormonal imbalance, shaving with razor and other bikini hair removal techniques, specific medical conditions like (Acanthosis Nigricans), diabetes and insulin resistance.

What then are the possible solutions?

First, prevention! The best approach remains to avoid all the instances given above. Try to lose some weight, apply Vaseline jelly or oil to reduce chaffing, consume lots of water and antioxidant fruits, avoid exposing your thighs to too much sunlight when sunbathing, study the side effects of certain medications and make an effort to see a physician as soon as you notice a discolouration on your thighs.

Notwithstanding, assuming you are looking to attack your present situation, the question then would be whether or not there really is a solution that can get you the desired result.

Studies show that a great way to achieve this is to frequently exfoliate your skin. This gets rid of old dead skin and eventually gives you the desired tone and skin texture. More so, NaturaGlow’s Body Scrub; an exfoliant, works great for all skin types that suffers from hyper-pigmentation. The big question then becomes, are you using any form of exfoliant for your discolouration? If yes, is it turmeric based? And how often do you use it?

Like we often advise; with natural, the process is gradual but healthy. Although consistency is a necessary factor here, it brings with it results that are not deceptive.

With us, you no longer have to deal with embarrassingly dark inner-thighs and underarms.

Perfect skin? Limitless choices of what to put on? Personal happiness and confidence? We advocate for the use of natural products as against chemically engineered creams and drugs.

7 Key Ingredients You Need For Fresh, Smooth, Glowing Skin

May 6, 2017 By Abby Jo

So how does anyone attain and consistently maintain a fresh, smooth and glowing skin, knowing fully well that with each passing day, skin ageing and wrinkling is inevitable?

Whenever anyone tells you “you’re beautiful”, there is always that split second where you analyse the motive behind the statement. Different thoughts ranging from “was it a tactic employed to get my attention” to “was it a genuine compliment” will flood your mind But, if the same person declares that you’ve got beautiful skin, the compliment fills you with a sense of pride. That split second of analysing the compliment almost always never exists.

Why is this?

Because it is a specific compliment that requires more than the pick up line shenanigans and more than flattery. It will require a great deal of authenticity to really convey this type of message. This is owing to the fact that anyone and everyone can be beautiful because as they say “beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder” but not everyone can truly boast of beautiful skin. In this context, “beautiful” means a healthy, well nourished skin, void of multiple skin tones and varying textures.

Imagine the feeling you get whenever anyone makes a positive remark about your skin. You’d sway with pride, speak with confidence and smile without an iota of insecurity.  This is because you possess something most ladies desire and aspire to have; a fresh, smooth, glowing skin. Yes, how young or old you look is often determined by the health, tone and texture of your skin. So how does anyone attain and consistently maintain a fresh, smooth and glowing skin, knowing fully well that with each passing day, skin ageing and wrinkling is inevitable?

It is customary for ladies to think the cost of such a desire is costly because they would want to invest in expensive creams, facial toners and other crucial cosmetics but do you know there are natural ingredients that can get the job done, probably better and give long-lasting results? You need to understand that attaining beautiful skin requires a great deal of consistency, sacrifice, patience and a modest investment. Expensive does not always mean better quality.

These cost effective natural ingredients can help protect your skin. As the largest organ in the body, your skin not only absorbs lots of nutrients, but also takes in a number of toxins everyday. Since your skin acts as your body’s defence against these toxins, it is important to be cautious of what you are applying on your skin! If you are putting unworthy skin care products on your skin, you can bet the toxins will make their way into your body, exactly where they don’t belong. The effect may take a while to show but it definitely will. It is not worth the risk!

To have a radiant, younger looking skin, getting rid of old, dry and dead skin cells are crucial. You also need to maintain the elasticity of your skin by ensuring your skin is constantly hydrated and well toned. There are 7 natural ingredients that will give you all these benefits without breaking the bank.

They are are:

African Black Soap: heals skin problems such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis. Fades skin discolouration, relieves dry and irritable skin, and evens skin texture and tone.

Honey: is a natural antibacterial. Always slows down ageing.

Lemon/Lime Juice: great for the treatment of blackheads. Rich in Vitamin C and citric acid, so they brighten and lighten your skin when used over time.

Coconut oil: it is an excellent moisturiser. It penetrates the skin better than other oils. Also a natural antibacterial and anti-fungal. Do I need to state that it has an awesome smell too?

Egg White: have astringent properties that help shrink pores by tightening the skin. Best results can be achieved when mixed with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.

Onion Juice: is a powerful antiseptic that protects your skin from acne-causing bacteria and other skin infections. It can also be used in the treatment of acne/pimples. It is also excellent for getting rid of dark spots and pigmentation.

Sugar: is particularly known for its startling effect on ageing skin. It helps keep the skin soft and supple. It is common knowledge that sugar scrubs are the most natural products to exfoliate the skin.

When all these ingredients are combined in a unique regimen, you can achieve fresh smooth skin, even if your face is ridden with breakout pimples, dark spots left behind by popped pimples and uneven skin tone. The consistent use of these ingredient combination can restore that youth radiant look. Word on the street is that going natural is the new sexy and the best part is you can create all of it right from your kitchen.

Are Natural Products Effective For Acne, Blackheads & Uneven Skin Tone?

May 6, 2017 By Abby Jo

“Nothing good comes easy”

If indeed the statement is true, could it be the reason why as humans, we tend to find quick fixes more appealing, even though deep down we know it may not stand the test of time?

Or maybe most times, we seek to flaunt the result irrespective of whether or not it lasts or it is authentic. No matter the extent of the proposed and anticipated consequences, we turn a blind eye and a deaf ear. The sad news though is, when it backfires we return to square one, in search of alternate solutions to the problem we thought was solved. Without learning much, we rush for another sporadic result. The frustration that comes with the ineffective outcome of the previous solution can arouse anxiety and lead one on a path to familiar beginnings. A quick fix approach many times leads to another restless beginning.

Has this been your approach when dealing with acne scars blackheads and or uneven skin tone? Are you intrigued, appealed and drawn towards products promising quick and fast results? You rush off to give it a try only to be sadden by the outcome and still in search for something better or have you given up on your facial issues altogether? It is easy to get distracted and obsessed with trying out several methods to solving acne scars, blackheads and uneven skin tone. It is even easier to get discouraged when at the end, you get less than the desired outcome but what if you are approaching it the wrong way? What if you focus on how fast instead of how effective?

Are you even aware of what products (formula or ingredient) work better for your acne scars, blackheads and uneven skin tone or are you just on a trial and error spree? You are a product of nature. So perhaps it is safe to assume that natural can be fixed using naturally made components. What if when treating your acne issues, your focus is on the most natural procedure to use? Because we already know “nothing good comes easy”, we must come to terms with it requiring a good investment of time, consistency and developing healthy habits.

Have you ever heard the saying ‘a watched pot never boils’? With natural products, you require patience; you will have to stop looking for ra change every 5 seconds. The moment you begin to get unsolicited compliments from other people, this is always the first indication that it’s working. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Change is constant yet transformation isn’t by force but by effort. A wiseman once said “with natural, the process maybe gradual but not deceptive”

It also helps to understand that acne can be triggered by anxiety, menstrual cycle, stress and striving under harsh weather conditions, consumption of oily meals and application of oily creams, makeups and cosmetics on the skin and yes skin types will respond slower or faster to specific natural ingredients, when used to treat it. It is time to focus on a lasting solution to your acne issues, instead of spending time and money, treating the side effects. It is time to ignore the moment and focus on the future.

A lot of people battle with acne scars, blackheads and uneven skin tone. If you fall in that category, what would mean to you, if I told you there is a way to have a fresh smooth face in a fortnight or less? This routine is all natural. It takes time and requires consistency. If you cannot commit to both, then don’t even waste your time reading any further.
